Fashion Photography Tips from One of London’s Biggest Designer Outlet Stores
I had the opportunity to help build one of London’s biggest designer outlet stores, and along the way, I picked up some valuable photography tips. Whether you're shooting for a major brand or just starting out, these insights will help you capture stunning fashion images.
1. Research Your Models and Plan Your Poses
A great fashion shoot starts with preparation. Fix: Use Pinterest to create mood boards and gather inspiration for poses, styling, and composition. This will save you time on set and ensure a smoother shoot.
2. Know Your Model’s Measurements
For garments to look their best, they need to fit properly. Fix: Always check your model’s height and clothing sizes in advance to avoid last-minute adjustments. One of my favorite tricks? Have your model walk back and forth—this creates a natural, organic look and helps ease their nerves.
3. Get Close-Up Detail Shots
Fashion photography isn’t just about full-body shots; details matter too. Fix: Capture close-ups of fabrics, stitching, buttons, or any unique design features. Most clients are paying for content that sells their clothing, so be sure to showcase those details. A wide lens can be a game-changer, allowing you to move quickly and grab the perfect shot.
4. Study Your Garments Before the Shoot
It’s easy to overlook key design elements if you don’t study the clothing beforehand. Fix: Make a checklist of important details to capture so nothing gets forgotten. These shots will likely be used on the client’s website, so highlighting unique features is essential.
